7/8 Plenary Lecture Yoga Therapy and Zen (In Japanese only) Prof. Hisakuni Saito Tohoku Fukushi University
Professor Hisakuni Saito, Tohoku Fukushi University Prof. Saito was born in Yamagata Prefecture in 1956. He is a professor at Tohoku Fukushi University in the General Welfare Department. He completed his doctorate at Tokyo University Department of Indian Philosophy and Buddhist Studies. While in graduate school, he trained to be a Zen monk at the Sojiji Head Monastery of the Soto Zen Buddhism. He is currently the abbot of a Soto Zen temple in Yamagata Prefecture, and teaches at Tohoku Fukushi Univeristy. His research is inspired by his interested in the significance of Buddhist philosophy in modern society, and he has been teaching Zen to students and the general public for more than 20 years at Tohoku Fukushi University. In 2007, he spoke about spiritual care to the Japanese Society for Kansei and Wellbeing. In 2008 he gave a presentation on Buddhism and Care at a Buddhist academic society in Korea, and on Person-Centered Care at a seminar in Finland.
